This “Pearl of the Arabian Gulf”, concentrated mainly on its exquisite creek, the finest natural shelter in 1600 km of coastline, ranks as the UAEs most important port and commercial centre. Apart from its exquisite architecture and culture, the education is noteworthy. Study in Dubai for Indian students presents them with immense opportunity to harness their culture.

However, Emiratis only make up approximately 20% of the country’s population, with the remainder coming from all over the Arab-Islamic world, and beyond! While most people speak English, walk the streets and you will hear conversations in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Tagalog, English, and any number of other languages. You will come away from this study abroad experience with a wide knowledge and insight into a broad range of world cultures. The UAE is the place to discover the real meaning of the word internationalization.
There are a range of study abroad opportunities, from large public universities to smaller private colleges, and everything in between. Many of these will be accredited both by the UAE’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR), and by an accrediting agency in another country. For example, the American University of Sharjah (AUS) is accredited jointly by MOHESR and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in the US.
Study abroad in the UAE as an exchange student (through a university partnership or ISEP), through a third-party provider (API, CIEE, IFSA-Butler), or as a direct-enrollment visiting student. You can join for a semester, or a year, and perhaps include an internship before returning home.
The American University of Sharjah, American University in Dubai, and American University of Ras Al Khaimah provide students with the unique experience to study abroad in the United Arab Emirates while still adhering to an American style of instruction at an institution accredited in the United States. SCHOLARSHIPS & COSTS
The cost of living in Abu Dhabi and Dubai is by no means low, but it’s quite comparable with any large city around the world, such as New York City or London. Many of the services and businesses in the UAE’s larger metropolises cater to high-earning expats, and have extravagant price tags to match. Being surrounded by luxury boutiques, indoor waterparks, and five-star restaurants may make it difficult to resist temptation, but it’s certainly possible to tailor your lifestyle to suit a more student-friendly budget. Sticking to local foods, rather than imported international brands, and regulating your spending on clothes and pastime activities will have your wallet thanking you.
While program costs for study abroad programs in the UAE will typically include tuition and accommodations, students are expected to cover costs for transportation, meals, and other personal expenses independently for most programs. Several scholarships are available to help students cover program costs such as the Boren Award and the Gilman Scholarship, both competitive awards funded by the U.S. government. For the American University in Dubai students can apply to the William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship, which fully covers housing and tuition for one term.
University tuition fees in the United Arab Emirates
Tuition fees at public universities
Public universities in the UAE are free to establish their own tuition policy. In general, international students can expect to pay anywhere between 5,000 and 27,650 EUR per academic year. You can also find cheaper — and sometimes free — study programs, but these are few and far between.
The tuition is calculated based on the total number of credit hours for each program. For example, if a Master’s in Education requires 36 credit hours to graduate, and the fee for 1 credit hour is 371 EUR, you will pay around 13,355 EUR for the full academic program.
Tuition fees at private universities
Just like public universities, private education institutions have the right to establish their own tuition fees. These are often higher, but that’s not always the case. For example, at the American University in the Emirates, the fee for 1 credit hour ranges between 285 and 405 EUR.
ACCOMMODATIONS & VISAS
You should have the following documents before applying:
Study abroad programs in the UAE provide students with accommodations, usually in dormitories, a nice perk that eliminates the hassle of navigating through the nation’s expensive rental market. Off-campus housing in apartments is not only pricy, but landlords also require a year’s payment to be paid up-front in the form of several checks, which are cashed in throughout the rental term. If a check bounces due to insufficient funds, you may find yourself in a legal predicament. This makes university housing the most attractive option for study abroad participants. In the sizzling Arabian desert air conditioning is a given in your accommodations, so don’t sweat it.
If you’re not a resident of the UAE, you will need to obtain a visa for your stay. Universities and program providers will inform students about the visa process, which requires several documents such as a confirmed acceptance into an accredited university, proof of sufficient fund for the duration of your stay, and a sponsorship letter from your host university. Additionally, you will need to provide a valid medical examination, among other documents. It may sound overwhelming, but remember that your program is always there to help you along the way.
